Pupil Premium and Free School Meals at Derby Cathedral School
Pupil premium grant is a governmental grant paid directly to schools to additionally support students that have been, or are currently in receipt of free school meals.
A key priority for Derby Cathedral School is to address social disadvantage and improve the life chances for the young people of Derby. To underpin this commitment the below model is used to ensure our commitment to students eligible for Pupil Premium Grant in addition to our admissions policy.
Further support for parents and carers
Free School Meals
Your child may be entitled to free school meals and qualify for pupil premium if you receive one of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
- Child Tax Credit Only (with income up to £16,190) with no element of Working Tax Credit
- National Asylum Seekers Support
- Guarantee Element of the State Pension Credit
- Employment and Support Allowance (income related)
- Universal Credit (income dependent)

Service Pupil Premium
Schools receive service pupil premium if students meet one of the following criteria:
- One of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces (including pupils with a parent who is on full commitment as part of the full time reserve service)
- They have been registered as a ‘service child’ on a school census since 2016
- One of their parents died whilst serving in the armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme
Pupil Premium Plus
Schools receive pupil premium plus to additionally support:
- A looked after child
- A previously looked after child
