"Rise up, Oh Lord, in all your power. With music and singing we will celebrate your mighty acts."
Psalm 21:13
Collective Worship
Collective Worship forms the spiritual heart of our school community at Derby Cathedral School. This programme recognises the fundamental importance of nurturing the spiritual development of every student, creating space for reflection, wonder, and personal growth that extends far beyond the academic curriculum.
Spiritual Emphasis
Our programme places spirituality at its centre, acknowledging that spiritual development is essential for the holistic growth of young people. We create opportunities for students to explore questions of meaning, purpose, and values in a supportive and inclusive environment that respects diverse beliefs and backgrounds.
We define spirituality as “A sense of knowing that we live in a world that is more than physical.”
Windows, Mirrors and Doors Framework
The programme is thoughtfully structured around the metaphor of 'Windows, Mirrors and Doors':
- Windows - opportunities to look outward and explore the wider world, different perspectives, and universal themes that connect us all
- Mirrors - moments for personal reflection, self-examination, and understanding our own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs
- Doors - pathways to action, service, and positive change, encouraging students to step forward and make a difference in their communities
Programme Structure
All dedicated time spent with tutors - whether in tutor rooms or gathered together in the hall - is designated as 'Collective Worship'. This intentional naming reflects our commitment to creating meaningful moments of shared spiritual experience that bring our school community together in contemplation and reflection.
